OVHcloud Dedicated
Dedicated servers from $11.10/month (Kimsufi line); current-gen OVHcloud bare metal from around $177/month
OVHcloud Hosting Review: Hidden Fees & Support Issues Exposed (2026)
OVHcloud offers dedicated servers from €39/month — among the cheapest in the world. 33 datacenters globally. Anti-DDoS included. Advance, Game, and High Grade lines for different workloads.
What OVHcloud Dedicated actually is
OVHcloud's bare metal business is the foundation the company was built on: it started selling dedicated servers in 1999 and still designs, assembles, and racks its own hardware. The bare metal portfolio is tiered into named ranges — Kimsufi (T1/T2, the budget line), Advance (T3, SME workloads), Game (T3, game and streaming servers), Scale (T4), and High Grade (T5, mission-critical) — sold through one control panel, one API, and one account. Behind it sits the same infrastructure as the rest of the company: 43 data centers on four continents, 100 Tbps of network capacity, 44 points of presence, and the Anti-DDoS stack that every OVHcloud product gets for free.
The honest headline for this product line is not the marketing claim in our database ("cheapest dedicated servers globally from €39") — that figure no longer matches the public catalog. What is true is that OVHcloud runs the widest range of dedicated price points of any major European host: Kimsufi servers start at $11.10/month excluding VAT for entry machines, and current-generation OVHcloud-branded bare metal climbs from roughly $177/month into quote territory for High Grade boxes. Nobody else covers that whole ladder, from a student's first root server to dual-socket EPYC production hardware, under one bill and one DDoS policy.
For the wider European market, this is our usual first stop in /category/dedicated-servers when a client needs physical hardware, data residency, and a predictable monthly number without an enterprise negotiation.
Pricing: what you really pay
Kimsufi is the price-floor range. The catalog lists eight KS references with 37 configurations, and the range headline is "from $11.10/month excl. VAT". The cheapest machine we could see priced on the public list was KS-1 at $22.56 including VAT: Xeon-D 1520 (4 cores / 8 threads), 32 GB RAM, 2 × 480 GB storage, 300 Mbps public port. KS-GAME — an i7-7700K with 64 GB RAM and 2 × 450 GB plus 4 TB of bulk disk — lists at $49.20 including VAT with free setup. Those are throwback-generation parts, which is exactly why they are cheap: fine for storage boxes, VPNs, and learning, not for latency-sensitive production.
Moving up changes the pricing logic. On the OVHcloud-branded list, RISE-L (Ryzen 9 9950X, 16 cores / 32 threads, 128 GB, 2 × 960 GB NVMe) is listed at $177/month with a $177 setup fee, and Advance-1 (2026 generation, EPYC 4245P, 6 cores / 12 threads, 32–256 GB) starts at $189/month with an equal setup fee, with Advance-3 at $236–255/month. Setup fees are the detail first-time buyers miss: they commonly match one month's rent and are waived in recurring promotions, but the list price is real and applies per server.
Three things are included that competitors charge for: Anti-DDoS mitigation at no extra cost and with no traffic cap for attacks, at least a /64 IPv6 block per server (a /56 on High Grade and Scale), and 24/7 hardware monitoring with intervention. What is not included: backup storage is an add-on, snapshots are not a bare metal concept (bring your own backup design), and support above the standard tier costs extra. Billing is monthly with setup fees — there is no hourly billing for dedicated hardware and no free tier.
Performance & infrastructure
You are renting a whole machine, so the performance story is mostly the silicon: current lines run AMD EPYC and Ryzen parts (the Ryzen 9 9950X and EPYC 4245P/4464P class), NVMe storage with Soft RAID, and private bandwidth from 1 Gbps upward. The ranges are curated rather than fully bespoke — you pick from predefined SKUs and RAM/storage variants rather than building any configuration you like — which keeps prices low but occasionally leaves you one notch below the exact spec you wanted.
We have not benchmarked OVHcloud dedicated hardware in our own April 2026 test round, so no numbers from us; the CPU scores OVHcloud publishes in its own configurator (for example 66,089 for the RISE-L's 9950X, 31,075 for the Advance-1) are vendor figures and should be treated as such. For tested comparisons, see /benchmarks.
Network and protection are the strongest infrastructure arguments. Every server sits behind the Anti-DDoS infrastructure: over 17 Tbps of global attack-filtering capacity, always-on detection, mitigation proven against attacks up to 1.3 Tbps, unmetered and unlimited in frequency. For game servers and anything UDP-heavy, OVHcloud also sells a dedicated Game DDoS profile on the Game range. Geographic coverage spans Europe (France, Germany, UK, Poland), North America (Beauharnois, Vint Field, Hillsboro), and Asia-Pacific (Singapore, Mumbai, Sydney), and the Eco lines show limited regional availability — a KS machine may only exist in 2 of 9 regions.
Provisioning deserves a note of its own. In-stock SKUs deploy in minutes from the panel or the API, and the same API covers reinstallations, IP management, reverse DNS, and rescue mode — we rate the API as one of the better-documented ones in bare metal, with a full public specification and an official Terraform provider. Where OVHcloud loses time is scarcity: when a popular configuration is out of stock in a given region, you are queued behind manufacturing and logistics, and "available soon" markers on the price list are common. If your project has a hard launch date, order early or pick from what is physically listed as in stock in your region.
Where it falls short
Start with what happened in Strasbourg. On the night of 9-10 March 2021 a fire destroyed the SBG2 data center entirely and damaged SBG1; a second fire broke out in SBG1's battery room on 19 March. Customers suffered outages across the site and permanent data loss, and the post-incident analysis raised hard questions: wooden raised floors in SBG2, no automated suppression in that building, backups stored inside the same campus, and power-independence claims that did not fully hold. OVHcloud has since reworked designs and published new fire-safety standards, and nothing about today's catalog is a copy of SBG2. But if you put a single dedicated server in one location and skip off-site backups, you are repeating the pattern that hurt people in 2021. We treat that incident as a standing lesson, not a disqualification.
Support is the other recurring issue: standard support is ticket-based and quality varies by region and shift, with premium tiers sold separately. Provisioning of custom or scarce SKUs can take days rather than minutes. The Eco ranges use older hardware generations with no upgrade path beyond moving to a new server. And the catalog itself is wide enough that comparison shopping inside it takes real work: identical-sounding SKUs differ by region, generation, and setup fee.
One more practical point on total cost: dedicated servers here are not metered like cloud instances. You pay the monthly rent plus optional backup storage and extra IP blocks, so a two-year-old box costs exactly what it cost on day one — no autoscaling surprise, no bandwidth overage bill in normal use. For steady production loads, that predictability is why we often model dedicated hardware below equivalent VMs once a machine crosses roughly 50% utilization. The trade-off is on you: when the workload grows, there is no resize button, only a migration to a bigger SKU.
Who should pick this
We pick OVHcloud Dedicated when a client needs physical hardware in Europe with a known monthly cost and included DDoS mitigation: game studios running UDP services, agencies consolidating many small sites onto one box, storage and backup workloads where Kimsufi's price floor is unbeatable, and GDPR-scoped production systems that must not touch non-EU jurisdictions. The range structure is also unusually good for growing companies — you can start on KS, move to Advance, and keep the same account, panel, and API.
We would not pick it for teams that want fully managed hardware (this is self-managed with support, not a managed service), for workloads needing bespoke single-unit configurations, or for buyers whose procurement requires a named support engineer on the standard plan. If you want the absolute cheapest modern dedicated box in the EU, Hetzner's auction and Robot lines deserve a comparison; if you want the widest ladder from $11 to enterprise, this is it.
Key takeaways
- Bare metal is OVHcloud's original business: Kimsufi, Advance, Game, Scale, and High Grade ranges behind one API and panel.
- Real entry price is $11.10/month excl. VAT on Kimsufi; current-gen OVHcloud bare metal starts around $177–189/month with matching setup fees.
- Anti-DDoS (17 Tbps filtering, 1.3 Tbps proven mitigation) and /64 IPv6 blocks are included at no extra cost.
- SLA runs 99.9% on Eco and Game lines up to 99.99% on High Grade and Scale, with service credits published in the contract.
- The 2021 Strasbourg fire destroyed a data center and cost customers data — plan off-site backups regardless of provider.
- Our pick for EU-resident, budget-to-midrange dedicated hardware; not a managed-service product.
